East Campus

Welcome
In 2005 DSS opened its East Campus in Aurora. DSS is a fully accredited 9th-12th-grade high school. Because we seek to remove as many hurdles from our students’ paths as possible, we offer in-school childcare for teen parents, tuition assistance, transportation assistance, and to the opportunity to seek dual-enrollment with local community colleges to enrolled students.

Staff Bio’s
Kacy Leyba - Principal
Kacy has been at the Denver Street School since 2007, first as a student, then as a teacher, and now as the principal of the East Campus. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in secondary English education at Metropolitan State University of Denver along with earning her Master’s degree in school counseling. She is passionate about discipleship, education, and storytelling, and loves that all three of those things intersect here at the Street School on a daily basis.
Julie MacCready - Bible/Social Studies - Vice Principal
Abigail Tonda - Math
Abigail spent her childhood in small-town Illinois and has since fallen in love with Colorado and moved her life here. After graduating from college, she followed her passion for advocating for those experiencing oppression and did that first by case managing at a homeless shelter in Denver. She began volunteering and tutoring at the Denver Street School in August of 2018, and slowly transitioned into full time teaching in the winter of 2019. She teaches a wide variety of classes, including Math, Art, Computer Skills, and Sex Education, and is passionate about bringing the curriculum creatively to her students.
Melissa Fink - English - Computers
Melissa is in her second year teaching English and Computer at the Denver Street School’s East campus. She graduated from Baylor University with a B.B.A. in Marketing/Management and worked in management consulting before she and her husband Michael decided to start their family. They have three boys, Will, Grant, and Matthew. While they are native Texans, they moved to Colorado 11 years ago and love it here! They love the outdoors and all the fun that comes with it.
Melissa returned to school to become a teacher; she received her Master of Education from Regis University and previously taught in both the Douglas County and Cherry Creek school districts. When she first learned of the Denver Street School, Melissa volunteered, bringing lunches and birthday boxes. It turned out “The blessing was all mine”, as she says, and now she has the privilege of teaching at DSS.
Joanna Moyer - Electives - Hesed
Joanna spent her teenage years with her family on their small farm in Virginia. She attended Virginia Highlands Community College where she became connected with Outfitters for Christ, a ranch-based youth retreat ministry in Yampa, Colorado. Through her two summer internships at Outfitters for Christ the Lord began stirring up a passion for working with at-risk high school youth, specifically Denver Street School students. In January 2018 Joanna packed her belongings and drove across the country to serve the Lord where he had drawn her heart contrary to her expectation – the Denver Street School in Aurora, Colorado. She fell in love, and is excited for year two of teaching! Joanna’s life goal is to be present and love well, every moment of every day.
