We exist to see lives change. Sometimes all a student needs is to connect with an adult who reminds them of who they are
Meet Jack…

“I started using drugs when I was 10-years-old. And by the time I was 14, I was one of Lakewood’s primary heroin dealers. Not only did I sell drugs, I was addicted myself. I was eventually arrested, put on probation, and got kicked out of Lakewood High School.
But then I found the Denver Street School!
I was skeptical at first and didn’t understand how people I didn’t know could love me unconditionally.
It took me a few years, but I finally embraced what the Denver Street School had to offer. I started growing and excelling, especially in math. I’m now an honor roll student and even tutor the younger students. I’ve also been learning more about God and his plan for my life.
For a few years, I stayed off of drugs only because I was on probation. But now, I’m drug-free by choice and have 3 years of sobriety under my belt.
Today, I encourage my fellow classmates to create goals for their lives.
Life is so much different now. Back when I was using, I thought that everyday would be my last, but now I have hope for my future. My goals are to go to college, start a family, and live out God’s purposes for my life.
And I’ve finally gotten to the place where I know Jesus loves me, and I want to commit my life to Him.
DSS, thank you for giving me the second chance that I needed. I plan to live it to the fullest.”
And we believe Jack will! Like all of us, his advocate Chris Fuller sees his life transformation. “When I first met Jack, he was a kid who allowed his past to define him. Now he’s a young man who is allowing Christ to define him.”
