Principal: Denise Gleason
Denise has been at the Denver Street School for over 15 years, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Arizona.
Computer & Life Skills Teacher: Vicki Tanin
Vicki has worked at the Denver Street School for over 15 years in various roles. She is currently teaching Life Skills, Computers, and Photography.
History & Bible Teacher: Chris Fuller
Chris was born and raised in Alaska which helped persuade him to attended college in a warmer climate. He met and married his amazing wife, and they have had five wonderfully hilarious children. He is a graduate of Grand Canyon University with a B.S. in Secondary Education. He is in his 4th year of working at The Denver Street school. He has a passion for at-risk youth and sharing the love of God, DSS is the perfect union of his passions. He looks forward to teaching our students about our history as humans (history) and how Jesus plays the protagonist in that story.
Science Teacher: Adam Dorn
Adam has worked at the Denver Street School for 6 years. Since graduating from North Dakota State University, he has been in schools and programs alongside his wife, Amanda, that work with at-risk youth. He and his wife enjoy serving in ministry together whether its with youth or at their church leading worship.
Math Teacher: Andrew Clawson
Andrew is in his third year of teaching at the Denver Street School. Andrew graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in Applied Mathematics and has sought to bring his enthusiasm and passion for math to the students at DSS. Andrew and his wife have been married for 9 years, have three children, and are excited about serving at DSS.
English Teacher: Elizabeth Brock
Eli is in her second year as the Language Arts teacher at the West campus of the Denver Street School. She attended Colorado Christian University and received her degree in English. Eli loves building relationships with the girls at DSS, rock climbing with the student and the National Sports Center for the Disabled, and watching God move in their lives.
Art & Preschool Teacher: Kacy Leyba
Kacy is a graduate of the Denver Street School who never quite left. After graduating in 2008, she returned to the East Campus as a volunteer for two years, then was hired at the West Campus as the nursery director. Since then, she has taught everything from preschool, to high school art, cooking, nutrition, and English, to collegiate level history at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her passions include mentoring teen moms, horseback riding, and chatting about Jesus over coffee.
Principal: Allison Millmore
Allison graduated from Wheaton College and began the first three years of her career teaching math outside of Chicago, IL She moved to Colorado in 2002. After a couple of turbulent years of questioning whether she had truly followed God with her career choices, God planted her as a math teacher at Denver Street School in 2004. By God's leading, she became the principal of the East Campus in 2011. She has been blessed beyond measure by the staff and students in the ten years with this ministry, and promises to continue leading here until God directs her elsewhere.
Student Advisor : Christina Schmitzler
Christina graduated from the College of Wooster in 2005, got a job teaching English at the Denver Street School, packed up her car, and drove to Colorado all the way from her home in New Jersey. She has been here ever since. Christina loves grammar, pugs, and is mildly obsessed with the writing of C.S. Lewis. Over the course of the last ten years, Christina has taught English, computers, art, theater, film, and cooking. She currently serves as our student advisor, working closely with students as they bridge the gap between DSS and the post-secondary education world.
History & Bible Teacher: Mike Brunstetter
Mike was born & raised in Pennsylvania and lived there until he was 26. He graduated college with a BS in Secondary education but at the time, he was also very interested in church ministry. He moved to Anchorage, AK in 2004 to accept a paid worship leader position and also teach at a Christian School there. In 2008, he moved to Denver, CO and God led him to the Denver Street School. He has been blessed to serve the Lord in this capacity and reach inner city teens for the Gospel.
Science Teacher: Ben Hammond
Ben has been at the Denver Street School for five years. He grew up in Texas where he went to college at Dallas Baptist University receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Biblical Studies. He and his wife moved to Colorado 8 years ago. He decided to return to school and completed his Masters of Education in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Jones International University. He and his wife Ashley have three little girls, Ryann (7), Norah (4), and Finley (1).
Hope Academy Director: Lexi Ellis
Lexi Es a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Denver Seminary, and has a clinical focus in trauma, abuse, grief and loss. After graduating she worked for a year developing Hope Academy of the Denver Street School, the nation’s first comprehensive day program for adolescent girls who have been sexually exploited. Lexi has attended multiple local and national trainings, conferences, and seminars on working with trauma and victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking, and is a member in good standing of the International Association of Trauma Professionals, and the American Counseling Association. Lexi is married and has a little dog, Nugget.
Hope Academy Associate Director: Brooke Steedly
Brooke came to Hope Academy of the Denver Street School from Atlanta, Georgia where she was born and raised. Since graduating from Samford University, she has a wide background in public accounting, ministry, and education. She most recently has been a secondary math teacher in the metro Atlanta area. Her and her husband recently moved to Denver, Colorado where they can enjoy the mountains year round. Brooke's passion lies in building quality relationships with adolescents and showing them the love and redemption of Jesus Christ.
