Founder & Executive Director: Tom Tillapaugh
Tom Tillapaugh is the founder and president of the Denver Street School and President of the National Association of Street Schools. An educator with a heart for the inner city, he has spent the last twenty nine years refining and sharing the street school concept. During that time, he has not only offered hundreds of Denver’s inner-city kids a second chance to earn their diplomas, but has helped to start street schools in other major cities across the country. Tom has been nominated to Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who among American Teachers. He is considered an expert in urban education reform and dropout prevention and recovery. He has had the opportunity to speak at the White House on two occasions and is currently an invited attendee and featured speaker for the annual anti-poverty summit at the US Capitol hosted by the Heritage Foundation.
Tom is married to Yvonne Tillapaugh and they have four children and seven grandchildren.

Director of Development: Amanda Hockmuth
Amanda has worked at the Denver Street School for over 10 years. After graduating from the Denver Street School herself, she returned to give back. Amanda went to Regis University and graduated with her degree in Finance and Communication. Her and her husband both work in ministry, love the Lord and are committed to making the world a better place.
Director of Publications: Carey Scott
Carey is the Director of Grants and Publications, and has been with DSS for 15 years. She has a degree in Communications with an Advertising and Marketing emphasis and loves being able to use her education and experience to help further the Kingdom. Principal: Denise Gleason
Denise has been at the Denver Street School for 15 years, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Arizona State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Arizona.
Computer & Life Skills Teacher: Vicki Tanin
Vicki has worked at the Denver Street School for over 15 years in various roles. She is currently teaching Life Skills, Computers, and Photography.
History & Bible Teacher: Chris Fuller
Chris was born and raised in Alaska which helped persuade him to attended college in a warmer climate. He met and married his amazing wife, and they have had five wonderfully hilarious children. He is a graduate of Grand Canyon University with a B.S. in Secondary Education. He is in his 3rd year of working at The Denver Street school. He has a passion for at-risk youth and sharing the love of God, DSS is the perfect union of his passions. He looks forward to teaching our students about our history as humans (history) and how Jesus plays the protagonist in that story.
Science Teacher: Adam Dorn
Adam has worked at the Denver Street School for 5 years. Since graduating from North Dakota State University, he has been in schools and programs alongside his wife, Amanda, that work with at-risk youth. He and his wife enjoy serving in ministry together whether its with youth or at their church leading worship.
Math Teacher: Andrew Clawson
Andrew is in his second year of teaching at the Denver Street School. Andrew graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in Applied Mathematics and has sought to bring his enthusiasm and passion for math to the students at DSS. Andrew and his wife have been married for 8 years, have three children, and are excited about serving at DSS.
English Teacher: Elizabeth Brock
Eli is in her first year as the Language Arts teacher at the West campus of the Denver Street School. She attended Colorado Christian University and received her degree in English. Eli loves building relationships with the girls at DSS and watching God move in their lives.
Art & Preschool Teacher: Kacy Leyba
Kacy is a graduate of the Denver Street School who never quite left. After graduating in 2008, she returned to the East Campus as a volunteer for two years, then was hired at the West Campus as the nursery director. Since then, she has taught everything from preschool, to high school art, cooking, nutrition, and English, to collegiate level history at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her passions include mentoring teen moms, horseback riding, and chatting about Jesus over coffee.
Principal: Allison Millmore
Allison graduated from Wheaton College and began the first three years of her career teaching math outside of Chicago, IL She moved to Colorado in 2002. After a couple of turbulent years of questioning whether she had truly followed God with her career choices, God planted her as a math teacher at Denver Street School in 2004. By God's leading, she became the principal of the East Campus in 2011. She has been blessed beyond measure by the staff and students in the ten years with this ministry, and promises to continue leading here until God directs her elsewhere.
English & Computer Teacher: Christina Schmitzler
Christina graduated from the College of Wooster in 2005, got a job teaching English at the Denver Street School, packed up her car, and drove to Colorado all the way from her home in New Jersey. She has been here ever since. Christina loves grammar, pugs, and is mildly obsessed with the writing of C.S. Lewis. In addition to English, she is also currently teaching computers, and in the past has taught other creative electives such as theater, cooking, art, and film.
History & Bible Teacher: Mike Brunstetter
Mike was born & raised in Pennsylvania and lived there until he was 26. He graduated college with a BS in Secondary education but at the time, he was also very interested in church ministry. He moved to Anchorage, AK in 2004 to accept a paid worship leader position and also teach at a Christian School there. In 2008, he moved to Denver, CO and God led him to the Denver Street School. He is in his 6th year as a teacher here and has been blessed to serve the Lord in this capacity and reach inner city teens for the Gospel.
Science Teacher: Ben Hammond
Ben is completing his third year of working at the Denver Street School. He grew up in Texas where he went to college at Dallas BAptist University receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Biblical STudies. He and his wife moved to Colorado 8 years ago. He decided to return to school and completed his Masters of Education in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Jones International University. He and his wife Ashley have two little girls, Ryann (6) and Norah (3).
